Passages of Time

Posted on October 23, 2015

We are just now starting to feel the first signs of autumn here in San Francisco. One positive of these lingering summery days is that they create perfect conditions for the marine layer – so we have been seeing lots of Karl the Fog! This past summer was a exceptional one, full of wonderful experiences with friends both old and new. Here are some of my favorite snapshots documenting the last few months.     To end the summer, I went on The Lost Coast Trail with some new friends over Labor Day Weekend. The remote, 25 mile stretch of rugged coastline is located five hours north of San Francisco. I will be posting an entry about the trip soon.

Last sunday my friend Noah and I went to a Fermentation Workshop at the awesome shop Gravel & Gold in the mission. We learned about some amazing things about the process and history of fermentation. Recently I’ve made Fire Cider and and an infused brandy Winter Brew.

It is actually starting to feel like fall here in the city – besides a few pleasantly warm afternoons. I finally bought some tea from Mariage Frères – I picked up Thé à l’Opéra and Marco Polo. Next time I think I’ll get Rouge Sahara. Apple season is also upon us and I discovered these beauties at my local market, they are called Pink Pearls. The color was such a surprise I decided to make a little tart. Once baked I love that the apple slices look like flower petals.

The talented and lovely Emma visited me earlier this week from London by way of Sweden. For a few days, we explored the city and became fast friends. I can not wait to plan a trip and visit her in London so she can show me around to her favorite spots in her city.
