franny and zooey by j.d. salinger takes place in new york, november 1955. franny is a twenty year old college student in the midst of a breakdown and her brother, zooey is a twenty-five year old television actor. they are part of the glass family – as children, all seven were prodigies and on radio shows – which put them all through college. Because of salinger’s recent death and my love for his work, i decided to closely follow the descriptions in the book and i came up with this!
my housemate lauren hadn’t really been to the mission much so last monday we went after our first class of the semester. we browsed lots of stores and had a late lunch at tartine. i found some great photos at the apartment and the racquet and camera at thrift town. i shot a roll of film while i was there, so i’ll post the photos this weekend when i get the prints.

i’ve been slowly collecting vintage books, and these are my favorite. the album of horses is my favorite because the illustrations are beautiful and i especially love the one of the mischievous shetland pony stealing the hat.
this beautiful period piece by jane campion is about the brief but unwavering romance between 19th century poet john keats and fanny brawne, a eclectic seamstress who lives next door to him.
sorry about the lack of posts this week, i promise i’ll make it up this weekend :)

today my brother and i drove back to san francisco, ending our very long winter break. lunch at pea soup anderson’s, lots and lots of rain and huge beautiful clouds along the I5, we had a snowball fight at a rest stop, and i think the highlight for paul was seeing the oscar meyer weiner mobile!
cleaning + organizing, rainy days, scrabble, native foods take out, tons of orange juice!
