summer inspiration

veganism

for the month of july i have decided to become vegan. i have been a vegetarian for a year and a half and sometimes a pescatarian; along eating only organic produce when possible. in the last few months i have discovered some amazing vegan dairy alternatives, so i’m not that worried about temptation.

after seeing her at coachella, i downloaded some of her songs, but sort of forgot about them. then last friday when my brother, our friend conrad and i went to the movies and saw wanted(!), we saw the hilarious trailer for pineapple express (below) featured her hit paper planes, and it reminded me of how much i like her unique sound.

ponyo on the cliff by the sea

 

i am so excited about hayao miyazaki’s new film! it will be his eighth studio ghibli anime, of which my personal favorites are my neighbor totoro + howl’s moving castle. 

the plot centers on a goldfish named ponyo who desperately wants to be a human; in pursuing her goal, she befriends a five-year-old human boy, sōsuke.

ponyo on the cliff is inspired by danish author hans christian andersen’s little mermaid as well as by the traditional Japanese folktale urashima uaro. the seaside village where the story takes place is inspired by a real town in setonaikai national park in japan, where miyazaki stayed in 2004

the film will be released in japan on july 19
